Giant Steps was established in the late Nineties in the Yarra Valley by serial entrepreneur extraordinaire Phil Sexton. A brewer by trade who was at the forefront of brewing in Australia, co-founding Matilda Bay brewery and Little Creatures, both now household names.
It has since won worldwide acclaim for its beautiful Yarra Valley pinot noirs and chardonnays, drawing fruit from some of the Yarra’s best vineyard sites. Phil’s intention was always clear from the beginning; after much investigation, he chose to settle in the cool Yarra Valley because he wanted to make wines of definition, purity and finesse.
Chief Winemaker Steve Flamsteed joined Phil in 2008 and has steered a range of Single Vineyard wines that remain some of the highest-scoring wines in Australia. Even the Giant Steps Pinot Noir and Giant Steps Chardonnay, so-called ‘entry-level’ wines, are treated seriously by Steve. They represent some of the best value in the Yarra.
Since 2003 the wines have collectively been awarded 27 trophies and over 95 gold medals at major international and domestic wine shows and have been named one of the Top 100 Wineries in the World by Wine & Spirits Magazine, the US for each of the last six years.
