I was drawn early on in my career to outstanding wine and food having worked in fine dining. Almost daily at Wine Experience, I meet inspiring professionals that make and distribute some of the most exciting wines being made, and it’s so much fun to share these experiences. I love all styles of wine, with my favorites being fresh whites with searing acidity and minerality, and medium bodied reds that are pure and polished. A joy of my job is being able to reunite a customer or friend to an experience with a particular wine or style that they loved, either from a restaurant or their travels. Evoking these ‘WOW’ Moments is the part I love the most.

With over two decades working in the wine business, I still get delighted by drinking great wine and seeing the results of passion and determination in the vineyard and winery. The rich history of ideas, places and culture continue to be told in the glass today, as it has for thousands of years. We are lucky that there are more great wines being made today than ever before, which makes working with, are sharing beautiful wine so enjoyable. People ask me what my favourite wine is, but it's an impossible question to answer, as it’s always changing. My philosophy is to drink any style of wine from any place, as long as it gives me pleasure. Because that’s the point right?

I think the seven years I spent living in Paris initially lit the vinous flame. I used to shop for wine in the many tiny wine stores and wine bars in that beautiful city that were always groaning with interesting bottles. In many ways, Wine Experience reminds me of those Parisian stores. Yes, 'good wine’ is, or should be, a harbinger of pleasure, emotional and even intellectual, and although occasionally I get it wrong, I try to keep that in mind every time I recommend a bottle of wine.

Andrew hosts our monthly masterclasses. He consults widely in the fields of wine retailing, restaurants and hotels covering property management, marketing, staff training and operations. Here, he combines his construction and engineering qualifications with his wine knowledge. He is a very active presenter of wine appreciation courses. He writes regular wine columns for a range of newspapers and magazines and presents a weekly wine and food programme on ABC radio. He has two daughters and plays as much golf as possible.
