Serrat Wines
Yarra Valley
The wines are fine, detailed, beautifully balanced, with lovely density and concentration.
Serrat is the home label of winemaker Tom Carson and partner Nadege Suné. One of the more remarkable sites in the Yarra Valley with vines planted at 8,800 vines per hectare, four times the average density when compared to many other Australian vineyards. As an interesting aside it takes one vine to make one bottle of Serrat so the value here is impressive.
Apart from crafting the wines at Serrat, Tom is also chief winemaker at Yabby Lake on the Mornington Peninsula. His reputation as an absolute perfectionist is well known in the industry, being the first winemaker to win the Jimmy Watson Trophy for a Pinot Noir, the 2012 Yabby Lake Block 1. His palate and ability to taste is also legendary reflected in the structure of his beautiful wines. He also Duxed the notoriously difficult Len Evans Tutorial in 2002.
Quantities of Serrat as always are tiny though and we only get one bite of the cherry a year so please act quickly if you wish to secure any of the wines.
