Sam Coverdale is a pretty down to earth kind of guy, a lovely person, a keen surfer, and a damn good winemaker.
He started off as a cellar hand at Tyrells at just 18 years of age, then completed a Business and Winemaking degree before setting off to further fine-tune his skills in Spain, Italy and France. On his return, he established the Polperrolabel and cellar door at Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula in 2006. Even Keel wines are his second label, with grapes sourced from a number of regions.
Today the wines are some of the finest (and best value) in the region, made with minimal handling, wild yeast ferments, no fining and filtration and predominately old oak. All the stuff we love! For sheer enjoyment, Sam’s wines are hard to go past.
