Having grown up within a wine family Owen Latta has been making wines since he was 15 years of age, and at 34 he is arguably the most innovative and forward-thinking contemporary winemakers to have hit the Australian wine landscape.
Owen’s wines are never predictable. Instead, they possess that very rare thing in both Australian and International wines which is ‘character’.
His work with sulphur-free wines is simply amazing, otherwise, Latta wines are minimally handled and carefully constructed, the opposite to what could be called manufactured wines. Besides the eponymous Latta brand, Owen also makes wine at his family winery in Ballarat, Eastern Peake Vineyards.
This is an important producer with a big future! In 2018 Owen Latta received the peer recognition he deserves being awarded “Gourmet Traveller Young Winemaker of the Year”. Watch this space!
