Chardonnay 80%, Tocai Friulano 20%. Macerated on skins for 10 days and aged in barrel for 15 months. Intense golden yellow, slightly hazy. Complex, persistent with hints of peach and apricot fruit in particular. Plenty of tropical punch and perfume, with lively acidity and fine tannin. An excellent starting point to the Radikon style.

Made ye olde traditional skin fermented method with chardonnay (around 80%) and local variety tokai friulano in the mix. All of this is fermented naturally, sent to very large, old oak, matured and bottled without sulphur. These wines come in 750ml format, where the longer skin fermentation wines are 500ml/1 litre. These wines are for ‘earlier release and consumption’. The 2018 cuvees released this year are very strong across the board (Sivi [gris] and ‘Rosso’). Chewy, powdery texture, bracing acidity, lots of green and dried apple characters, hay/straw savouriness, a touch of oatmeal, lots of bright citrus and some more floral stone fruit characters there too. Lots going on. Lots. Drinks a charm straight from go, though drink it in a sitting rather than saving some as the wine doesn’t look as bright day two. The skinsy pucker is really good, the flavours savoury mostly, though lots of interesting fruit character to pause over. Very good release.

Producers notes

Oslavia is a hilly area with a very favorable climate for the development of the screw. The vineyards of (about 12 ha) are located on steep slopes, typical of the Collio Gorizia, with optimal exposures to the South, South-East. On this type of land most of the works are carried out by hand.

The soil is mainly constituted by "ponca". This type of clay in the deeper layers of the soil is very compact and resembles a rock, but as soon as it comes into contact with some corrosion factor (air, water, ...) loses consistency once again becoming loose clays.

The new plants have very high densities (7000-10000 screws hectare) and in this way the screw in slight stress produces fewer grapes, but of higher quality. Then allow only 4-5 bunches per plant, which, along with an appropriate stripping, to maintain the right amount of sun, minerals and other nutrients to the clusters.

The treatments are reduced to the minimum necessary and are made only from those natural product1s that have not proved nor harmful to the environment or to humans. It is not used so any product1 of synthesis, such as herbicides, plant protection systemic insecticides, synthetic fertilizers.
