More powerful than Oslavje but more focused than Ribolla. Delicious.

Description: Made with 100% Friulano. Long macerations on the skins, no temperature control, native yeasts, etc., etc. All the usual suspects. Entirely hands-off winemaking.

100% Friulano (white grapes). Spontaneous fermentation in contact with the skins, without the temperature control. At the end of the alcoholic fermentation, vats are filled and closed, the wine remains in contact with the skins for 3 months. Aged 42 months in oak barrels

Colour Intense orange-yellow with coppery tints. Intense and complex nose with notes of almond, tropical fruit nuances and a pleasant ethereal and slightly spicy. Taste Large, fresh and fruity with an almond aftertaste typical of the vine.

Producers notes

Oslavia is a hilly area with a very favorable climate for the development of the screw. The vineyards of (about 12 ha) are located on steep slopes, typical of the Collio Gorizia, with optimal exposures to the South, South-East. On this type of land most of the works are carried out by hand.

The soil is mainly constituted by "ponca". This type of clay in the deeper layers of the soil is very compact and resembles a rock, but as soon as it comes into contact with some corrosion factor (air, water, ...) loses consistency once again becoming loose clays.

The new plants have very high densities (7000-10000 screws hectare) and in this way the screw in slight stress produces fewer grapes, but of higher quality. Then allow only 4-5 bunches per plant, which, along with an appropriate stripping, to maintain the right amount of sun, minerals and other nutrients to the clusters.

The treatments are reduced to the minimum necessary and are made only from those natural product1s that have not proved nor harmful to the environment or to humans. It is not used so any product1 of synthesis, such as herbicides, plant protection systemic insecticides, synthetic fertilizers, ...

Winemaker STANISLAO RADIKON:
Stanislao Radikon (Stanko to his friends) knows how to grow grapes. His family has been doing it on their 11 hectare estate in the Friuli region of north-eastern Italy for over a century. Stanko began running the estate himself over 30 years ago and elevated its status immensely. The vineyards are densely planted (up to 10,000 plants per acre) on steeply sloped limestone and everything is done by hand, literally. Stanko does not use pesticides or synthetic fertilizers and keeps his yields under a paltry 2.25 tonnes to the acre. Basically everything is in place to produce some of the greatest grapes on the planet, and they do, but it’s in the winery where Stanko Radikon has forged a reputation for himself as one of the most visionary winemakers in the world – and all because he barely does anything.

Working exclusively with natural product1s and eschewing additives entirely Radikon harvests by hand, has extended maceration times and lengthy skin contact on his whites, ferments long and slow with natural yeasts and uses no temperature control.
