This is the only wine in our range that is not made from grapes grown on our property at Gembrook. This year our Village Pinot is a single vineyard pinot from a vineyard in Yellingbo in the Upper Yarra Valley. In a curious twist for the Upper Yarra Valley, this vineyard is situated on grey clay loam. So while the fruit has hallmark Upper Yarra perfume it has a denser richer palate and tannin structure.

In the winery, the fruit is destemmed, fermented on skins for 3-4 weeks and matured in large format old French oak. 

Unfined, unfiltered. Estate bottled.

Our notes

This fruit is sourced from a single vineyard at Yellingbo in the Upper Yarra Valley only 6km as the crow flies from Gembrook. Despite this, it ripens up to 2 weeks earlier than Gembrook Pinot. The vineyard was planted in 1996 on grey clay loam duplex soil. Handpicked the fruit is cooled overnight in a refrigerated container then destemed the next day. Fermented in open fermenters for up 4 weeks. No yeast added. Pressed at dryness and matured in old French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. 

Potentially one of the greatest ‘entry level’ Pinot Noirs in Australia. This is flat out delicious, light-bodied, yet flavoursome, with beautiful pure strawberry and red cherry fruit, screams both of Pinot Noir but more importantly exhibits that high toned and detailed Gembrook style.
