Gareth Belton is a trained Marine Biologist who until recently collected and studied seaweed for identification and analysis. He kind of fell into winemaking after working with James Erskine at Jauma Wines, asking lots and lots of questions, and as they say the rest is history.
His own label Gentle Folk is situated in the Adelaide Hills where farming practices are run along the lines of organic principles, with the intention being to add as little as possible to the vineyards or the wines. Gareth farms a number of small parcels in Basket Range, Forest Range, Norton Summit, Summertown and Ashton. He situates himself in the ’natural wine’ camp or at least he doesn’t grumble if others do.
The wines ooze a natural charm that only inspired farming practices and sensitive winemaking can deliver. Gentle Folk are truly unique Australian wines that express their origins and the ethos of their dedicated thoughtful maker. And yes, they sell out fast!
