“2022 is a vintage of tiny yields, the lowest in our history. The total crop was down 70% on our long-term average, we averaged 700kg per acre. This was due to severe storms during flowering. To get this much flavour and concentration into a wine without losing any of its line and charm is a skill – no doubt that comes from experience and, obviously, the vineyard. Savoury, dark, bitter chocolate infusing the black cherries with toasty, cedary oak and roasted spices. Supple yet powerful with raw silk tannins weaving their way easily across the fuller-bodied palate and acidity leaving no doubt this will garner more complexity in time.

This is MV6 clone at its best, the wine deeply coloured. Hand-picked, hand-sorted, gently de-stemmed, wild yeast fermented, 16 days on skins, matured for 11 months in puncheons. Gloriously rich bouquet and palate, both with black cherry and five spice.

Yabby Lake Vineyard was established by the Kirby family in 1998, in Tuerong, which is located in the northern part of the peninsula. Over the past decade, the vineyard has built a reputation for single vineyard chardonnay and pinot noir of great purity and character.
Led by winemaker Tom Carson, our philosophy is to craft wines that speak of our site and the season in which they were grown. It’s the attention and care in the vineyard that is most critical to allowing this expression.
Our vision and dedication has lead to some exciting accolades in recent years, including our history-making Block 1 Pinot Noir - which was the first pinot noir ever to win the revered Jimmy Watson Trophy, after 52 years of the award.
