A medium-bodied “classic” claret style featuring a succulent, fruit-layered palate integrated with earthy complexity & fine dusty tannins. Juicy acidity underscores well-weighted voluminous fruit & a deep, long finish, combining generosity & concentration with finesse rarely found at this price point.

This one is personal… I worked at Warramate alongside its founder, the late Jack Church, in the early 2000’s and got to know him quite well. He struck me as a quiet, self effacing, beautiful man, a true gentleman of the vine, with vivid mischievous child-like blue eyes and a blistering intelligence who only seemed to speak when he had something meaningful to say. Jack was a great winemaker [alongside his son David] but both of them, like so many of the Yarra Valley pioneers, were not marketing people. Despite this Warramate developed an almost cult-like following through word of mouth and its loyal maillist clientele who eagerly awaited each years release.

From 28-40yo vines, hand-picked, some bunch and berry sorting, open-fermented, 12 months in French oak. The perfumed bouquet introduces a supple, medium-bodied palate with the full suite of ripe cabernet flavours, enhanced by moderate alcohol. Oak, too, plays a part.

Producers notes

Varietals: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Region: Yarra Valley (Gruyere)

Vines: Fruit was sourced predominantly from the 2.3 acre plot devoted exclusively to the SA125 clone of Cabernet sauvignon and planted in 2000. The balance of the blend was derived from small volumes of Cabernet sauvignon and a small amount of Cabernet franc produced from the old vine Warramate 1970 plantings.

Cellaring: Given the youthful exuberance it currently displays, it is ready for immediate enjoyment. Expect a mellow and graceful evolution for 8+ years under suitable cellaring conditions.

Shipping

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
