Vietti Barolo Riserva 2015 - Piedmont
Bottle size: 750ml
Maximum buy quantity no greater than 3 bottles.
Medium-intense ruby red colour. On the nose a very complex aromatic expression with notes of truffle and forest underbrush as well as ripe red and black fruit (cherry, blackberry, prunes and figs), balsamic nuances. On the palate it is medium-bodied, quite rich and powerful. The tannins are well-integrated in the fruit structure of the wine. A lively acidity uplifts the profoundness of the wine. Well balanced. Long lingering aftertaste.
This first release of Vietti’s Barolo “Riserva” is the result of a “selection within the selection”: while working on composing the blend of the Barolo ‘Castiglione’, we have been impressed by some of those wines coming from specific single parcels of Cru vineyards, for their combination of intensity paired with elegance and good tannic structure, representing a very good ageing potential.
The Vietti family has been producing wine in Castiglione Falletto in the heart of Le Langhe in Piedmont for five generations, with 33 estate vineyards located across all 11 communes designated for the cultivation and product1ion of Barolo, plus Roero for Arneis and Agliano Asti for Barbera and Moscato.
In 2016 Vietti was purchased by the American Krause family, however current generation winemaker Luca Currado-Vietti continues to direct the Vietti Estate meticulously, together with his wife Elena Penna-Currado, to produce some of the finest and most representative wines of Le Langhe.
Luca’s late father Alfredo was often referred to as the “father of Arneis” since in 1967 he invested a great deal of time and resources in rediscovering and understanding this almost extinct variety. Today Arneis is one of the most famous white wines of the region and 2017 marks the 50th Anniversary of this historic renaissance.
