Torzi Matthews Francesca Grillo OV Grenache 2022 - Barossa Valley
Closure: Crown Seal
Bottle size: 750ml
A Grenache bearing my mothers name that expresses her softly spoken manners in a style she orchestrated me to vinifi for her via her upbringing of a natural progression of zero sulfite dosage.
The nose is wonderfully perfumed of bright
raspberry red fruits and cherry. Delicious
juicy palate that carries over from the
aromas with rose petal wonders. Finishes
long with lovely fine velvet tannins – just
wonderful drinking!
Our notes
Reviews
Rowland Flat. 108 year old bush vines. 20% whole bunch.
Raspberry, red cherry, a little charcuterie, pepper, dried roses and a twist of orange peel. It’s medium-bodied, so fresh and bright, gentle stony tannin, clarity and cool ‘mineral’ feel, a dried herb perfume, sugared almonds, orange zest, and super length. Delightful.

Producers notes
Domenic Torzi and Tracy Matthews, former Adelaide Plains residents, searched for a number of years before finding a block at Mt McKenzie in the Eden Valley. The block they chose is in a hollow; the soil is meagre, but they were in no way deterred by the knowledge that it would be frost-prone. The result is predictably low yields, concentrated further by drying the grapes on rack, thus reducing the weight by around 30% (the Appassimento method is used in Italy to produce Amarone-style wines). Newer plantings of sangiovese and negro amaro, and an extension of the original plantings of shiraz and riesling, have seen the wine range increase.
