Santa Duc Les Plans Vin de Pays de Vaucluse 2020 - Rhone Valley
Alc: 13.5%
Closure: Cork
Bottle size: 750ml
It's back with a cracking new release! Is this France's best value red wine? Santa Duc continues to impress us as a Southern Rhone producer, with owner Yves Gras and his son Benjamin putting out some of the best value and best quality wines in the appellation. They are whistle clean wines, yet still display loads of character. This would typically be classified as a Cote du Rhone, but the addition of a little merlot and cabernet, not permitted in the Rhone, means it now takes the more flexible Vins de Pays de Vaucluse appellation instead.
Perhaps Benjamin's apprentice at Domaine de la Romanee Conti and Vega Sicilia has paid off as he now takes the reign from his father, Yves as winemaker at Santa Duc!
Our notes
From the 2020 Rhone vintage, 100% biodynamic/organic wild yeast fermented with minimal sulphur added, expressing the care and attention Santa Duc wines receive in the vineyards and the winery. It’s mid-weight leaning towards full, packed with juicy, delicious dark summer berries infused with lifted violets, wild herbs, spice and gentle savoury/earthy complexity. Crazily good for the money! - Constantine

Producers notes
The story continues. An expertise unique in Gigondas, extended also to the single parcel selections of Châteauneuf-du-Pape – La Crau Ouest, Les Saintes Vierges, Le Pied de Baud, Habemus Papam, allow Benjamin to reveal the qualities that are essential in a great wine: balance, elegance, purity and depth. Only natural for a family of winemakers born at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail hills, whose splendor and natural beauty are a daily source of creative inspiration.
