Much like a favourite flannelette shirt, the Kaesler Bogan is full of warmth and personality. Creator Reid Bosward was determined to prove that being described as a ‘country bogan’ was no barrier to producing a fine Barossa Shiraz. Proof that a classy red transcends class. The Bogan is a quintessential, full-bodied Shiraz produced from an assemblage of estate vines planted in 1899 and 1960s.

Beautifully named, The Bogan has become a finer offering over the years. An assemblage of estate shiraz vines planted in 1899 and 1960s, it seems to have a little more clarity, balance and space than past releases. It's still Barossa through and through: rich in dark berry fruits, spices, violets and earthen depth, but tension and a savoury shape has replaced the pure horsepower of old. Best drunk in your favourite flanny shirt watching Bathurst on telly ... actually anytime is a good choice. It's a beauty from a cracking vintage.

Producers notes

Our ‘Bogan Block’ is in the Marananga sub region of the Barossa, planted in 1899, we are the grateful custodians of these vines that have seen many things including the Federation of a Nation, two world wars and several generations of blood sweat and tears. This amazing fruit is combined with our 1965 Old Vine blocks that are from the same clonal material as our Old Bastard vineyard

The Kaesler Vineyards were established in 1893. The family, sprung from Silesian pioneers who came to the Barossa Valley in the 1840s, took up 96 acres in 1891. They cleared the scrub and in 1893 planted out the entire holding with Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro (Mourvedre) and White Hermitage vines.

Some of the gnarled dry-grown Shiraz still remains and provides the backbone of the intense wines produced from the sandy loam of this prime viticultural block.
