Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers 2020 - Burgundy
Bottle size: 750ml
Maximum buy quantity no greater than 16 bottles.
This is one of the rare Têtes de Cuvée which was not reclassified as a Grand Cru in the 1930s, just like Les Amoureuses or Les St-Georges. Since 2013, our estate has held more than 4 hectares, or almost half of this appellation. It is spread over two distinct terroirs. At altitude, marl and limestone provide finesse and minerality. At the bottom of the plot, deeper clay soils give the wine power and richness. Oriented towards the South-East, this plot benefits from optimal sunshine. Our plot produces a rich and generous wine similar to the aromatic notes of Chambertin. Its consistency from year to year is remarkable. The blend results in a powerful, complex, distinguished wine, emblematic of the Gevrey-Chambertin style. Generous and rich, this wine would be Erwan's preferred choice to accompany him on a desert island! Its nose is both intense and complex, offering aromas of red fruits combined with grilled and roasted notes. On the palate, it is intense and generous, with well-marked tannins. This powerful wine reveals a silky structure and remarkable persistence.
"The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is brilliant, unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums, dark chocolate, spices and vanilla pod. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it’s elegantly muscular, with a deep and multidimensional core and a long, expansive finish. It’s worth a special effort to seek out. 93-95+" William Kelley
Our notes
Tasting note: Once again there is a lovely sense of freshness
to the more restrained, even brooding, dark berry fruit nose
that is cut with hints of the sauvage and just turned earth. The
dense, powerful and gorgeously textured larger-scaled flavors
brim with both dry extract and minerality before concluding in
a complex, balanced and sneaky long finale. Excellent potential
here.

January 2022, Outstanding
Bright vibrant purple, this is exuberant, wearing its heart on
its sleeve. On the richer side, I was thinking possible 14% but
Erwan confirms 13.5%. It has retained all its balance, and can
offer a very pretty long juicy cherry finish.

Producers notes
Founded in 1825, Bourgognes Faiveley has been handed down from father to son for over 175 years. As the sixth generation to take the reins, François Faiveley manages, with equal amounts passion and competence, the largest family domaine in Burgundy. Methodically reconstructing vineyards fractured by French inheritance laws, Bourgognes Faiveley today owns more appellations in their entirety (monopoles) than any other domaine in Burgundy.
