We make no secret here at the Wine Experience that we are in love with Cabernet Franc! Even though there’s been an explosion of interest by Australian winemakers with excellent delicious examples now available from Margaret River to the Yarra Valley, it can be rarely argued that the spiritual home is still in the Loire Valley in France.
Whether it be Bourgueil, Chinon, Saumur Champigny, or Anjou, Loire Valley Cabernet Franc has seen a serious spike in popularity with wine lovers around the world. The Chateau Pierre Bise is a little different. It is blended with 30% Cabernet Sauvignon which unlike other appellations in the Loire is permitted in the Anjou-Villages AC. It definitely makes an impact in this wine adding a little extra structure, power and richness compared to other straight Franc Loire styles.
Our notes
There's lovely voluptuous ripe cassis/plum fruit at the fore infused with hints of graphite/lead pencil and attractive cedar oak. The Loire acidity from the Franc on the palate adds tension and keeps things in control with sturdy slightly rustic tannins from the Cabernet giving the wine direction and shape. Sounds like a Bordeaux, doesn’t it? Infact in the store we often sell it as a bargain alternative to Bordeaux, as we strongly believe this little wine might give some pricey St Emilion's a run for their money! .
