Lovely, floral nose with lifted spice, rose petal and high toned cherry/plum fruit, and yes, some pretty whiffs of violet too. The palate is medium weight, showing good vibrancy for a Mclaren Vale shiraz, and delicious, juicy flavours that echo the nose, unhindered by new oak. The texture is silky and fine, giving an overall impression in the mouth of pure class winemaking. Impressive.

"This is the violet hour, the hour of hush and wonder, when the affections grow again and valor is reborn, when the shadows deepen magically along the edge of the forest and we believe that, if we watch carefully, at ant moment we may see the unicorn." - Bernard DeVoto, "The Hour".

JAMES HALLIDAY'S TOP 100 WINES OF 2021

Sourced from Shiraz plantings dating back to 1947 ex the Rayner Vineyard. A beautiful wine in every dimension – its crimson colour, haunting perfumed bouquet, fruit that caresses the mouth with its perfectly ripened fruit, superfine tannins, and subtle but relevant oak. What a bargain. Screwcap, 14% alc.

Producers notes

We are a little family wine company making wines from our favourite regions McLaren vale and Adelaide Hills. Our home is the iconic Rayner Vineyard in McLaren Vale. We want to make wines that are lighter, brighter, more savoury, structured and intriguing. Different. In August 2016 we were honoured to be named James Halliday's Best New Winery in his 2017 Australian Wine Companion.
