AROMA
The aromatics of this wine jump out the glass with sage, cherry spice and fresh almonds.
PALATE
Powdery tannins provide a canvas for the flavours that wash across the medium bodied palate, and bright acidity keeps the wine fresh and vibrant.
FOOD MATCHING
Very food friendly due to its savoury characters – try with duck rillettes and fresh crusty bread.

Our 2018 Mataro has a very long finish and persistent drive with an elegant fruit profile. A beautiful mix of savoury characters and bright red fruits. Complexity builds in the glass.

The Real Review
Medium to full red colour with a tinge of purple. The bouquet is fresh raspberries and a subtle lick of mint, a touch of toasty oak and some gritty tannins that add serious structure. A solid, robust red that will repay a little cellar time. It has a lot of innate charm and heaps of potential. Already delicious with food (protein recommended). The Real Review, 11 October, 2019

Straight out of the blocks, this new wine label established in 2014 by husband and wife Rob and Louise Mack has already gained a strong reputation for quality and value. Pedigreed winemaker Rob Mack concentrates on grape varieties that thrive in the Mediterranean climate of McLaren Vale, producing stylish Grenache as well as other regionally emerging varieties, such as Mataro and Sagrantino.
They craft their wines to match the foods they love to eat - Italian, Mediterranean, and Asian. It starts with the sun and the earth. Aphelion Wine Co.’s growers are passionate about producing premium, hand tended grapes from only the most select, unique parcels of land.
