A blend of 3 parcels of Blewitt Springs Grenache, 4 parcels of McLaren Vale Mataro and 3 parcels of McLaren Vale Shiraz result in a wine with oodles of complexity. Good roundness of fruit flavour on the mid-palate leads to a savoury finish with powdery tannin.

All ten parcels that make up this wine were fermented and aged separately before blending. The Grenache components come from 3 separate Blewitt Springs vineyards. Whole bunch and whole berry ferments were used. The Mataro parcels are from 3 separate vineyards, with some whole bunch, some pre-ferment cold soak and some 3-month extended maceration used.

The Shiraz components are from 2 separate but very close by vineyards – one higher in elevation and picked earlier, the other picked later. A portion of this lower elevation ferment was kept on skins for 4 months. The wine was then matured for 9 months in neutral French hogsheads prior to bottling in December 2018. Unfined & unfiltered.

The Real Review
Deep red/purple colour, bright and fresh, as is the aroma of herbs and raspberries with a hint of jam. The wine is medium to full-bodied and soft, fresh and clean and bright, quite light on the tongue and easy-drinking. The tannins are light and easygoing. It's straightforward, young and charming. The Wine Front
Small batch grenache, mataro, shiraz from the M-Vale here. Always interested in the Aphelion suite of wines with winemaker Rob Mack very considered in his approach. Lovely perfume suggestive of ripe raspberry, some dried fruit elements but more in the cranberry zone and a good dose of pepper and clove. Quite potent out of the glass. Fuller flavoured, juicy and bright though, a sluice of ripe berries and tangy-sour-cherry fruitiness, nice nice, then a slight rasp to acidity and sense of thinness to finish, though that doesn’t undo the wine, just a change of gears. Really nice glossy texture with a vibe of ‘pinosity’, in a beefier sense. Good feel here with high drinkability.

Producers notes

Straight out of the blocks, this new wine label established in 2014 by husband and wife Rob and Louise Mack has already gained a strong reputation for quality and value. Pedigreed winemaker Rob Mack concentrates on grape varieties that thrive in the Mediterranean climate of McLaren Vale, producing stylish Grenache as well as other regionally emerging varieties, such as Mataro and Sagrantino.

They craft their wines to match the foods they love to eat - Italian, Mediterranean, and Asian. It starts with the sun and the earth. Aphelion Wine Co.’s growers are passionate about producing premium, hand tended grapes from only the most select, unique parcels of land.

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
