Andre Clouet Grande Reserve Brut NV - Champagne
Bottle size: 750 ml
Initially showing a very fresh bouquet of high toned fruits with hints of hazelnuts and yeasty aromas, the Grande Réserve cuvée displays highly structured red fruit notes on the palate for which the area is so famous. Long lees aging, low dosage and Grand Cru Pinot Noir fruit combine for an opulent yet balanced Champagne.
'Recent tastings confirm my impression that this small and relatively unknown grower ranks high among Champagne's finest practitioners of pinot noir - and expresses one of the best value of all.’ - Tyson Stelzer, The Champagne Guide
'This impeccable, elegant wine shows terrific overall balance as well as complexity. I loved it.’ - ANTONIO GALLONI, Robert Parker.com
We are very proud to introduce this great Champagne producer into our store. It’s quite absurd really when a Champagne from such a tiny quality-minded producer such as Andre Clouet sells for less or the same price as other well known brands that make millions of mass-produced bottles. This is an awesome, rich, concentrated pinot based Champagne yet delivered with such precision and elegance
Jean-François Clouet, who was born and raised in Bouzy, still lives in the 18th century village house built by his ancestors. As his family was the official printer to Louis XV’s Royal Court at Versailles, Jean-Francois takes great pride in his lineage. He is also well aware of the influence his family has contributed to the grand and tumultuous history of the region.
Acknowledging the privilege and significance of his standing, Jean-François strives to continually improve upon the estate and wines by drawing from its past as well as implementing changes that ultimately improve the quality of his wines. The domaines' 8ha (20 acres) of Grand Cru vineyards are situated in the coveted middle slopes of Ambonnay and Bouzy.
They make a full range of Champagnes, including most famously the glorious Cuvée 1911, which is comprised of 100% Pinot Noir from Clouet’s ten best lieux-dits in Bouzy. The product1ion of each successive release is limited to 1911 bottles.
I like to think of the Grande Reserve like a vintage collection of “Greatest Hits”
Imagine being transported by the effervescence of Champagne, letting yourself feel the magic of musical masterpieces as they explode on your palate:
“Straight No Chaser” from Miles Davis, hits your mouth, starting you off with a powerful groove, then, extending into the melodious swing of “Come Fly With” Me by Frank Sinatra.
A bouquet of aromas and flavors come at you like a mash up of “Brown Sugar” by the Rolling Stones and “Desire” from U2, melting into the soulful depth of song with Diana Krall and her “Cry Me A River”.
The freshness and tension bounce on your tastebuds with Elvis in “Jailhouse Rock”, finishing, in the end, with a bittersweet instrumental finale entitled “True Sorry” by Ibrahim Maalouf.
Don’t forget that Pinot Noir likes to chill in its own special way. It will warm up to play, naturally, as you decant it into your glass.
Get ready to jam, jukebox heros!
