Vines are over 35 years old and produce an exceptionally intense and aromatic wine that reflects the unique character of its terroir. With its deep, clear ruby red hue, it reveals notes of black fruits and excellent strength and concentration. As with all Gevrey-Chambertin, it requires a few years of patience before reaching its full potential.

2019 is a fresh and well-balanced vintage characterised by extreme weather conditions (frost spells, heatwave). Volumes are low although the quality is outstanding. The harvests began on Monday 9 September and came to an end on the 21 September. The red wines are seductive, well-balanced, aromatic, fresh and direct. The tannins are elegant and approachable. The palate discloses aromas of juicy fruits as well as warm, sunny, spicy notes.

Our notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report:

Almost 10 hectares worth in this wine – 23 different lieu-dits – a large part in Justice but the rest is mainly Gevrey from the slopes including Brochon. That’s a fine and more florally perfumed nose – pure and clean like the others. Supple, deeper, great texture here. Great depth of finishing flavour – almost 1er cru level here." (02/2021)

Allen Meadows - Burghound

Soft wood and a top note of menthol are present on the plum and sauvage scented nose. The racy, intense and again attractively textured medium-bodied flavors possess both fine depth and length on the youthfully austere finale. This is a lovely Gevrey villages that should reward mid-term keeping. *Burghound Outstanding!*  (1/2021)

93 points Decanter

Assembled from over twenty lieux-dits, with a domaine-owned surface area of over nine hectares in the village-level Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. A proportion was fermented as whole cluster and the wine aged in cask, one quarter new. This is less forward than some, but lovely red and black berry fruit open up on the palate. There is significant density, but also a straight tannic line that carries the wine through to a lovely finish. Drinking Window 2021 - 2039. (CC)

Producers notes

Founded in 1825, Bourgognes Faiveley has been handed down from father to son for over 175 years. As the sixth generation to take the reins, François Faiveley manages, with equal amounts passion and competence, the largest family domaine in Burgundy. Methodically reconstructing vineyards fractured by French inheritance laws, Bourgognes Faiveley today owns more appellations in their entirety (monopoles) than any other domaine in Burgundy.
