Whistler Shiver Down My Spine Shiraz - Barossa Valley
Closure: Screw cap
Bottle size: 750 ml
100% of the fruit is sourced from our vineyards surrounding our Cellar Door, grown using organic practices in the vineyard. Hand picked by our loyal mailing list customers, the Purple Hands crew, the majority of this wine comes from our grafted Shiraz blocks, with the balance coming from the older plantings of Shiraz on our vineyard.
This is the third release of this wine, dedicated to our loyal mailing list customers who helped pick and make this wine. Bursting with blackcurrant and blueberries, this wine shows the typical characters found in the Western side of the Barossa- chocolate/mocha and black pepper, but with a surprising freshness to the wine.
Frankincense and blackberries jump out of the glass, along with a slight leafiness, which comes from the whole bunch component in the wine. Soft and juicy on the palate, but with a backbone of tannin from the whole bunches that draws the wine across the palate giving it length and precision.
We had Josh in the store recently and were impressed by the whole range. He is a talanted young winemaker to watch. An interesting fact is that this wine is one of the few to still be foot stomped and aged in large 3000L oak casks (called foudre), just like in the good old days. Enjoy!
Located on the golden stretch of Seppeltsfield Road in the heart of the Barossa Valley, Whistler was established in 1999 by the Pfeiffer family, the German "Pfeiffer" translating to "Whistler" in English. The 15 hectare vineyard operates entirely under organic and biodynamic practices with Josh Pfeiffer at the helm. Josh is the next generation of Whistler custodians having returned to the winery in 2013 after a five year winemaking stint at Henschke and a further two years at Two Hands. Josh's "Next Gen" range of wines is all about fun and drinkability.
Voted one of the Dark Horses in James Halliday's Wine Companion 2016 and Top 50 Young Guns of Wine for 2016 as well as taking out the People's Choice vote in each city around Australia for Game of Rhones in 2017, both Josh Pfeiffer and Whistler have fast become one of the winemakers and brands to watch in the Barossa.
Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)
In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.
The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").
Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.
For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.
Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
