The history of Vigneti Radica (Radica vineyards) goes back to the Fifties when the late grandfather Rocco established his first vineyard in Tollo, a small village in Abruzzo at 150 meters altitude above sea level between the warmth of the Adriatic sands and the chill of the Majella mountain.

Their Montepulciano vineyards were planted in 1973. All the fruit is hand picked, then fermented and matured in stainless steel for a period of fifteen months.

Our Notes: WARNING! This weeks wine is damn delicious, but it does come with ‘how to drink instructions!’. And please follow them. This is a beautiful wine made in quite a reductive environment for an extended period in stainless steel so needs some coaxing and air on opening. Initially it is quite savoury and earthy with the fruit slightly hooded and tannins at the forefront. However after a short decant or some aeration the lovely dark Montepulciano fruit begins to emerge, rise and stretch out. There’s rich plum and blackberry spice with hints of leather and bitter chocolate set against a lattice of savoury grippy tannins and notes of street tar and earth. It’s a classic Montepulciano with distinct Italianate character and savouriness.

Treat it right, and watch it open up for you!

Producers notes

The history of Vigneti Radica (Radica wineyards) goes back to the Fifties when the late grandfather Rocco (known in the village as Zi’ Rock) established his first wineyard in Tollo.

Initially he cultivated mostly table grapes, producing wine only for family and friends. Grape cultivating proved to be a success and Rocco purchased more lands in Feudi di Ortona, dedicated solely to wine grapes. Rocco believed strongly in the potential of Abruzzo’s wine, being one of the founders of the farmers’ cooperative established in Tollo to produce local wine.

Since his yearly years Rocco’s son Antonio has worked next to him in the vineyards and learned the secrets of winemaking.

In the Seventies Antonio expanded the grape cultivation and acquired Tenuta Nicate in Fara Filiorum Petri. In 2009 Antonio with his sons Giacomo and Rocco Jr established their own family winery to create great wines from the Radica wineyards and to share this passion with enthusiasts of good wine. As all families living in Italian countryside, also ours has a local nickname – we are called Li Ture, which means ‘The Bull’ and to be loyal to the tradition we proudly chose this strong animal to be our symbol.

Shipping

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
