Good winter & spring rainfalls, with good soil moistures for the growing season ahead. Sites showed healthy canopies heading into summer. January and February were warm & dry leading into mid March harvest making this release of great cellaring potential with intense fruit, texture and structure.

Packed with Sangiovese high fragrances of dark cherry and dried herbs. The flavours flow on from the aromatics which are full, delicious and savoury with a lovely juicy, bright refreshing palate and fine tea leaf tannin lift with oak in minor. A lovely food table wine.

Made via a mixture of whole berry and 25% whole bunch wild yeast ferment in small open top fermenters, soft pump overs, basket pressed and bottled unfiltered.

Our notes

Tomato-based Sauce with Portobello Mushrooms and Tempeh (Meatless Meat Sauce), tossed with linguine. A true Molise dish that's a perfect match with a Molise Sangiovese!

A red from 2018, already. Red fruits and cherry, almond, violet, a little nougat. Medium bodied, fresh, youthful fruit profile, a jolly burst of almost blueberry flavour, but with tempering grainy tannin, nutty and earthy, bright finish of satisfying length. Very good this year. Good now, better again with some bottle age.

Producers notes

Domenic Torzi and Tracy Matthews, former Adelaide Plains residents, searched for a number of years before finding a block at Mt McKenzie in the Eden Valley. The block they chose is in a hollow; the soil is meagre, but they were in no way deterred by the knowledge that it would be frost-prone. The result is predictably low yields, concentrated further by drying the grapes on rack, thus reducing the weight by around 30% (the Appassimento method is used in Italy to produce Amarone-style wines). Newer plantings of sangiovese and negro amaro, and an extension of the original plantings of shiraz and riesling, have seen the wine range increase.

Shipping

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
