Native family red grape of Molise Abruzzi now grown here in the Barossa Valley.

A truly charismatic red table wine with high perfumed dark red spiced summer fruits that runs through the palate with added licorice blackstrap, violets, earthen notes. The finish is long, fresh and lively with lovely supple tannins.

Amaro (bitter) is one of my favourite things. I’m mad for bitterness in drinks and knock off a lot of the stuff. Cherry, almond, a bit of an orange peel and dried herb aromatic, a dusting of pepper. It’s medium bodied, kind of juicy and supple, with cherry and that pinch of bitterness that makes it so wonderfully gustatory. Finishes with a soft powdery tannin, and good length. Here’s a great drink.

Producers notes

Domenic Torzi and Tracy Matthews, former Adelaide Plains residents, searched for a number of years before finding a block at Mt McKenzie in the Eden Valley. The block they chose is in a hollow; the soil is meagre, but they were in no way deterred by the knowledge that it would be frost-prone. The result is predictably low yields, concentrated further by drying the grapes on rack, thus reducing the weight by around 30% (the Appassimento method is used in Italy to produce Amarone-style wines). Newer plantings of sangiovese and negro amaro, and an extension of the original plantings of shiraz and riesling, have seen the wine range increase.

Shipping

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
