Vieux Naudin Bordeaux Superieur Rouge 2015 - Bordeaux
Bottle size: 750ml
This little gem won the “Best Buy” accolade in Gourmet Traveller Wine recently which spiked our curiosity. It comes from St Michel de Fronsac which is Merlot country and yes it’s 70% Merlot with a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) and Cabernet Franc (10%).
It’s definitely no Chateau Petrus but it is a lovely all purpose mid-weight French table wine which is impeccably crafted at this modest level. The warm and highly regarded 2015 Bordeaux vintage may also be playing a role in the success of this wine. It you like French wines but don’t want to hock your house to drink them, then this is definitely a good option.
Vieux Naudin Bordeaux Superieur 2015, FRANCE 13% Alc
"Best Buy. The warm 2015 vintage in France produced very approachable wines with particularly generous, attractive, plush fruit flavours. This lovely young claret is no exception, especially now that it has spent a couple of years in the bottle. A blend of about two-thirds merlot and the rest cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc, this gorgeous plummy red is balanced by savoury flavours of earth and coffee, and a dark sour-cherry lick of complexity. Superb value.” BEST BUY - Gourmet Traveller Wine
Our notes: This has an elegant laid back ‘Claret' feel to it. Just on mid-weight with mineral infused red fruit amidst notes of dried herb/tobacco, gentle earth and some cedar oak touches. It's a delight to drink with easy going light tannins completing the picture. Will take a few years of bottle age too. Most importantly it smells/tastes like Bordeaux. A very good French table wine at this price. Nice.
