Valli Bannockburn Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021 - Central Otago
Bottle size: 750ml
97 Points Platinum - Decanter World Wine Awards
The Bannockburn Vineyard Pinot Noir is James Bond - entertaining, daring and seductive. The location of Valli’s Bannockburn Vineyard is only 20km from Gibbston in the Cromwell basin but the difference in climate is responsible for creating markedly different wines. The Bannockburn wines reflect this warmer area by displaying darker fruits, by being denser, more powerful and with longevity based more on their tannin structure, as opposed to Gibbston wines which are based more on their acidity. The soils are also windblown loess over gravelly schist but with sandier, deeper topsoil, which allows for free draining. Climate, rather than soil, attributes to the main difference in the wines. Deep garnet hue with a lifted fragrance mingling fresh florals, dried herb, red & blue fruit, liquorice, earthy loam and new leather. The flavours mirror the aromas with bright fruit, a savoury edge and delicious floral notes. Immediately fresh, the silky textured palate builds in the mouth and crescendos with a memorable, lingering finish.

94/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front, December 2022 (2021 Vintage)
"Supple/succulent textured, lots of vibrant, bright, red and black cherry fruit character, almost a plummy sweetness though it is tempered with black olive, sage leaf, bay leaf and saline mineral notes. Savoury through the finish, a sheath of fine, earthy tannins work magic to capture the more exuberant fruit qualities of the wine. Power and presence yet grace and an almost skeletal feel too. Beautiful wine."
Reviews
"This is gracefully opulent and sophisticated with Black Doris plum, dark cherry, dried herb, toasted almond and subtle savoury notes on the nose. The palate is robust and substantial, while remaining gorgeously harmonious and elegant. Silky and plush within a sturdy frame, promising to evolve magnificently. At its best: now to 2038."
Sam Kim
An energetic burst of red berry, plum and cherry infused with a forest floor and truffly mushroom undercurrant. Exquisitely poised with velvety tannins, a crunchy acidity and a beautifully youthful, autumn leaf texture. Long and peppery.

Producers notes
Guiseppe Valli emigrated from an Italian winemaking background to New Zealand in the 1870s. Five generations later great great grandson Grant Taylor continues the family tradition in the Gibbston Valley near Queenstown. Winemaker for Gibbston Valley Wines, Valli is Grant Taylors first release of a wine under his own label.
The aim of Valli is to create premium quality Pinot Noir displaying the variety of characters found in Central Otagos grape growing subregions. The location of Vallis Bannockburn Vineyard is only 20km from Gibbston in the Cromwell basin but the difference in climate is markedly noted in the wines.
