Our Bannockburn Vineyard Pinot Noir is James Bond - entertaining, daring and seductive.

This incredibly fragrant and elegant wine is from our relatively cool site in Bannockburn in a cool growing season resulting in a wine with great tension and incredible layers of red fruit, spice and earth. The aromas are both intriguing and complex: fresh berry, wild game, gun smoke, baking spice and wild thyme. The palate is long and bright with cherry, blackcurrant, cardamom, and delicious savoury undertones. Silky fine tannins compliment the vibrant acidity, giving the wine length and memory. This wine is drinking beautifully at release and will continue to do so for at least a decade.

"Combining richness with refinement, this stunning pinot shows dark berry characters on the nose with nuances of anise, toasted nut and floral. It’s wonderfully concentrated and weighty on the palate, delivering terrific fruit intensity with stylish oak infusion, beautifully framed by silky tannins. A complete package offering upfront appeal as well as potential to evolve graciously. At its best: 2022 to 2030."

The Real Review

"Fragrant, appealing aroma with quite a floral and violet emphasis, while the palate was more savoury with crushed herb and grape stems adding extra interest to cherry and berry flavours. An ethereal wine with a backbone of fine tannins – should age well."

2018 Pinot Noir – Bannockburn Vineyard: (Central Otago, 13.5%). A combination of both red and dark currant is complemented by notes of plum and discreet spice wisps. The rich and nicely voluminous middle weight flavors possess a velvety mid-palate texture before concluding in a dusty and youthfully austere finale. This needs to develop more depth, but the underlying material appears up to the task over the next 4 to 6 years. Worth a look. 91/2024+

Producers notes

Guiseppe Valli emigrated from an Italian winemaking background to New Zealand in the 1870s. Five generations later great great grandson Grant Taylor continues the family tradition in the Gibbston Valley near Queenstown. Winemaker for Gibbston Valley Wines, Valli is Grant Taylors first release of a wine under his own label.

The aim of Valli is to create premium quality Pinot Noir displaying the variety of characters found in Central Otagos grape growing subregions. The location of Vallis Bannockburn Vineyard is only 20km from Gibbston in the Cromwell basin but the difference in climate is markedly noted in the wines.

The Bannockburn wines reflect this warmer area by displaying darker fruits by being denser powerful and with longevity based more on their tannin structure whereas Gibbston wines are based more on their acidity. The soils are also windblown loess over gravelly schist but with sandier deeper topsoil which allows for free draining as well. The main difference in the wines is attributed to climate rather than soil.

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
