A vibrant lifted nose of cranberries, violets and poached rhubarb.

A fresh and crunchy palate and modest soft tannins. Translucent red fruits are the hallmark of this wine, supported by savoury, spicy notes from the meunier component and fresh cherry pip acidity on the finish.

All fruit was harvest on 12 April 2019 at 12.5 baume. The Meunier was completely destemmed while 25% of the Pinot Noir was left as whole bunches in the same fermenters (10% in total). Cold soaked for three days prior to being warmed up for wild ferment (by indigenous yeasts) which lasted for about seven days prior to being basket pressed on 23 April 2019. Racked off gross lees to older Francois Freres and Ermitage French oak puncheons. Five months in oak on fine lees prior to preparing for bottling. Final blend: 66% Pinot Meunier, 34% Pinot Noir.

Bottled 17 October 2019. Total production: 4770 bottles.

More juice, middle, sap and crunch than the straight Pinot, this is a delicious blend. Light, I suppose, but the middle fattens with air and the effect is one of generosity: succulent red forest fruits, a whiff of whole cluster spice and an effortless, tapered finish. Sort of like a Cru Beaujolais in Tasmanian mode. (Ned Goodwin) James Halliday Wine Companion 2021, 1 August, 2020

Producers notes

Stargazer pays tribute to Abel Tasman, who, as an explorer and navigator, must have spent a fair amount of time gazing towards the heavens. Tasman, a Dutchman under the employ of the United East India Company was the first European to sight Tasmania (on 24 November 1642) and then the South Island of New Zealand, nineteen days later on 13 December.

He is a natural link for me, having been born and bred a South Islander, and now having fallen in love with another island, Tasmania. The opportunity to work with pristine fruit to craft the wines that I am passionate about in an environment of extraordinary beauty is really all I have ever wanted to do as a winemaker.

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
