When it comes to lavish and loud in the Australian wine landscape, the Barossa Valley has to take the cake. Rich, intensely flavoured and opulent wines that wrap around you like warm hug. Marschall is loaded with blackberry and spiced plum with hints of red liquorice and star anise. There’s texture, bucket loads of fruit and spice and it’s the perfect addition to a winter evening.

I like this. Unexpectedly fresh shiraz, full-weighted, detailed and impeccably poised. Bravo. A hint of reduction on the nose sashays effortlessly to clove, star anise and dusty riffs on turmeric and curry powder, before violets, blue fruits and iodine play a more typically regional shiraz card. This is my favorite wine of the recent suite in terms of sheer drinkability. Younger vines, longer extraction and superior tannins to the rest, the result. Crunch, sass and power all in one.

Producers notes

A story that has intrigued us for years is the fable of the legendary founders of Ancient Rome, Romulus and Remus. These twins were abandoned at birth and reared by a she-wolf. Romulus murdered his twin in a fit of rage over the naming of Rome, the city which both had built. Legend presents Romulus as the stronger, more powerful of the brothers, while Remus was more refined, focussed and elegant. We believe the twins’ characterise the distinctive and unique flavours and attributes of Shiraz from the twin valleys - the Barossa Valley and Eden Valley.
