This time it’s a Cabernet Franc from McLaren Vale. Widely regarded as the Pinot Noir of the Cabernet family, Cabernet Franc is an important variety in the Loire Valley in France, and seeing a revival in popularity amidst forward thinking creative winemakers here in Australia too. Even Mt Mary now makes a Cabernet Franc!

It’s just so easy to drink and bloody delicious. It has that blackcurrant fruit which you see in Cabernet but it’s generally a bit softer with less tannin input and a distinct leafiness which when in balance is so attractive.

Sometimes you just want a wine that is simple and pure, and easy to get along with. Crafted in a sensitive minimal intervention natural manner by the clever guys at Somos, I could picture myself standing at our soon to be open cosy Wine Bar here at Wine Experience, sipping on this little beauty, and slowly picking away at a platter of charcuterie, cheese and olives. Pick one up when you’re next in the store. Lovely stuff!

Our notes

Textbook Cabernet Franc nose. So perfumed and inviting. So correct. A pinot drinkers cabernet with pure essency cassis and dark cherry spice amidst attractive leafy varietal nuances. Light to mid weight with flat out delicious flavours that echo the nose. Juicy, mouthwatering. Tastes like quality. Feels like quality. If there was ever a red wine you could drink for breakfast this would be it :] Wonderful.

This comes from Slate Creek Vineyard in Willunga. Picked in two tranches, one for green spectrum and freshness, one for the flesh. Clever. Natural ferment, no adds, yada yada. Stellar drinking. Stacks of flavour but loads of crunch. Bite of sour-sweet fruit but some softness there too. Sprinkled with pepper, laced with dried green herbs. Has that slightly bloody-ferrous thing going on too. Mouth-watering acidity. Just shy of medium weight. Far out. This is great. Rated : 93 Points Tasted : Mar-20 Alcohol : 13.60% Closure : Diam

Producers notes

Minimal intervention. Single vineyard. Small ferments. Big interest.

Shipping

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
