Shobbrook Poolside Syrah 2020 - Barossa Valley
Closure: Crown seal
Bottle size: 750ml
The Poolside is a great way to see what our harvest was like . Spice and melon with great acidity make this a beautiful little wine. Picked in the cool of morning from Syrah in Vine Vale. One bottle may not be enough..
Tom Shobbrook is a name inextricably linked with the natural wine movement in Australia and a greater movement towards handpicked, naturally fermented, minimal intervention wines of exceptional quality that I term New Wave Australian wine.
Drinking the 2019 Poolside tonight. Quite stunning. Initial effect had me thinking Jura Ploussard with gentle game and savoury notes amidst fresh cranberry and just ripe tangy strawberry fruit There’s a touch of residual co2 that enlivens the blistering fresh palate. Early picked. It’s featherlight. It’s gorgeous. A lick of positive VA. It’s a bloody delicious wine… this is clever winemaking.
Especially when you remind yourself that it’s a Barossa Shiraz.
After 12 years of growing grapes and making wines on our farm in Seppeltsfield things have come to an end. We now have 2 hectares of vines in Flaxman Valley which will give us some fruit in the harvest of 2019. It won't be much but it will be very exciting to taste fruit from the vines we grew from cuttings in our nursery at home. We will eventually end up with around 5 hectares of vines and a mixed orchard of fruit and nut trees.
The Farm sits at 540 meters above the ocean. The soils are old and acidic consisting of sandy loam over yellow orange clay. The sandy loam profile is scattered with rose quartz while the clay layers have shadows of mica.
The wines should be lean and tight, holding fine acidity. This next journey will be an exciting ride. For now we will continue to make a small amount of wine from some old vineyards in Vine Vale.
Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)
In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.
The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").
Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.
For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.
Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
