Poggio Anima Belial Sangiovese 2017 - Tuscany
Closure: Screw cap
Bottle size: 750ml
It smells and tastes of sun kissed red berry fruit; it’s dry, earthy, and delicious. After it continues to open, scents of cherry cola, minerals and spice emerge. Swirl that essence along with the red fruit, and there’s simply no way you won’t be transported to the rolling hills of Tuscany.
One of the four crown princes of hell. Roughly translated to ‘without yoke’ in Hebrew. It is believed that Belial is the purest definition of ‘lawlessness.’ The correlation is that much of what has come to be known as ‘Supertuscans’ or ‘IGT’ is simply lawless. People blending international varietals with indigenous varietals, etc.
Pair it with pizza, lasagna, or simply drink it with your tried and true pasta and “gravy”. Grill a beautiful steak with some rosemary sprigs, toss a little pasta with a ragu of tomatoes, basil and pepperoncino (fancy for red pepper). Make sure you get your greens so add a salad of arugula in a lemon vinaigrette with toasted pine nuts and shaved pecorino. This is also a bottle you bring to the restaurant.
Poggio Anima is a joint venture between Montalcino superstar Riccardo Campinoti of Le Ragnaie. The idea is pretty simple: to source the best vineyards from existing relationships and produce a real wine that conveys a place and a grape. These wines are not bulk wines, nor leftover juice from a winery, but long term contracts that we have signed with reputable growers.
Poggio Anima translates to ‘Hill of Soul.’ Going back to the concept of Poggio Anima we wanted to capture the ‘soul’ of each vineyard and grape. No manipulation, no water, sugar, etc. Just the pure expression of the fruit and site. I would argue that many wines have a ‘soul,’ but very few weeknight wines share this. Poggio Anima has come along to change this.
Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)
In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.
The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").
