Single Vineyard Chardonnay, fruit sourced from ‘Bowyer Ridge Vineyard’, Adelaide Hills grown by the Rosback family.

Irrigated vines, on mica schist, North/South aspect 480-495m altitude.

2019 saw us realise a long dream of making a Chardonnay. After both working in Burgundy now 10yrs ago, we have a real passion for Chardonnay and wanted to embark on making a single vineyard wine from the Adelaide Hills. After much negotiation, we were very lucky to be able to access some fruit from the Bowyer Ridge Vineyard.

Hand-picked fruit, whole bunch pressed, the free run only was drained and fermented in French oak barrels - 45% new. 100% wild ferment, left on lees in barrel for partial malolactic fermentation while stirring to build texture. Given the warm growing season we wanted to preserve the natural acidity, which was remarkable given the weather so did not encourage full MLF as a result.

Fresh lovely indigenous ferment characters, a touch of complementary sulphide and plenty of pithy primal fruits, white florals, almond meal, nougat, flint and fresh yogurt. Deep fleshy primary fruit across the palate with endearing drive of acidity.

From Bowyer Ridge vineyard, which is planted to Bernard clones. 110 cases made. I’d imagine Skye, who I’ve not met, made this wine, because I’ve only ever seen Charlie Seppelt drink Chardonnay, not actually make it. I could be wrong. No shortage of flavour here, which is a good thing. It’s all white nectarine and almond meal, seasoned with cinnamon, and a very modest amount of struck match and fennel. It’s cool and glossy, pleasing viscosity, apple pie, lime and hazelnut, pulls a little chalky and finishes long and smooth, two fruits and biscuit oak in the aftertaste. Kind of Hills v sexy Burgundy style, if you like. And I really like this wine.

Producers notes

We were fresh-faced, aspiring young winemakers tallying up the vintage experiences when we met in 2008 at Hardy’s Tintara in McLaren Vale. A connection was formed over long nightshifts, sneaky midnight coffees and love of all things wine.

Many vintages together followed both here in Australia and abroad, but the pull of McLaren Vale was too great and we gave up the nomadic vintage life to put down some roots.

We found our home in Port Willunga, a seaside town in the McLaren Vale wine region, where the afternoons are long, and the glasses full.

After a collective 46 vintages all over the world it was finally time to make a little wine for ourselves and our long-awaited project Paralian Wines was born.

Choosing specific sites for each variety lead us to the northern reaches of McLaren Vale where old inland seas once were, now leaving beach like pockets where our chosen red varieties, Grenache and Shiraz thrive.

Site and vintage expression is our fundamental belief, working with our growers to ensure quality and ideal ripeness is met with balance and varietal expression in mind. To do more, is to do less.

This is our story, these are our wines, we are - PARALIAN.

Shipping

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes. For estimated delivery times and further information see here. If you have any additional questions, please email us on sales@wineexperience.com.au or call us on 1300 55 44 35
