Here is another beauty to add to your shopping list of incredible Grenache’s being made in this country. It comes from the cool Blewitt Springs subregion of Mclaren Vale and crafted by husband and wife team Charlie Seppelt and Skye Salter. This may be their first release under the Paralian label, but between them they have amassed an impressive array of winemaking experience, including working for such international heavyweights in France as Domaine Jean-Louis Chave in the Rhone and Chateau Giscours in Bordeaux.

In anycase Charlie and Skye have achieved an immaculate sense of harmony with this wine which shows a perfect synergy between lovely fruit, wonderful delicate aromatics, savouriness, subtle oak and fine tannin. It’s just on medium weight, and there’s not a hint of heat or jamminess which has often plagued this variety in the past, but less and less so these days.

It’s a beautifullly constructed Grenache which is flat out delicious to drink now [preferably out of a pinot glass] but also has a bright future ahead of it. Congratulations Charlie and Skye!

Finally the name ‘Paralian’ if you're curious is the ancient Greek term for someone who lives by the sea.

Our notes

"A wine of elegance and finesse, and a very bright future in bottle ahead of it.” - 95 POINTS, Gary Walsh WINEFRONT

Few will argue that Grenache in Australia is definitely on the rise and rise. A few years ago the talented Mark Bulman from Turkey Flat walked away with the Jimmy Watson Trophy for his Barossa Grenache [the first time a Grenache had ever won the Jimmy Watson] and last week James Halliday awarded Yangarra High Sands Grenache 2016, Wine of the Year.

"From the Marmont vineyard in Blewitt Springs. They picked a good year to release their first Grenache. "Red cherry and raspberry, cinnamon and nutmeg, floral perfume with perhaps a little pinch of mandarin skin. It’s brightly lit, light and frisky, plenty of spice through pure red fruits, a subtle spearmint and dried herb perfume, firm emery tannin, crunchy cranberry acidity and flavour, pulling a little more savoury and firm on a long finish. A wine of elegance and finesse, and a very bright future in bottle ahead of it." Rated : 95 Points Alcohol : 14% Drink : 2020 - 2030+

Producers notes

We were fresh-faced, aspiring young winemakers tallying up the vintage experiences when we met in 2008 at Hardy’s Tintara in McLaren Vale. A connection was formed over long nightshifts, sneaky midnight coffees and love of all things wine.

Many vintages together followed both here in Australia and abroad, but the pull of McLaren Vale was too great and we gave up the nomadic vintage life to put down some roots.

We found our home in Port Willunga, a seaside town in the McLaren Vale wine region, where the afternoons are long, and the glasses full.

After a collective 46 vintages all over the world it was finally time to make a little wine for ourselves and our long-awaited project Paralian Wines was born.

Choosing specific sites for each variety lead us to the northern reaches of McLaren Vale where old inland seas once were, now leaving beach like pockets where our chosen red varieties, Grenache and Shiraz thrive.

Site and vintage expression is our fundamental belief, working with our growers to ensure quality and ideal ripeness is met with balance and varietal expression in mind. To do more, is to do less.

This is our story, these are our wines, we are - PARALIAN.

Shipping

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes. For estimated delivery times and further information see here. If you have any additional questions, please email us on sales@wineexperience.com.au or call us on 1300 55 44 35
