Nestled amongst our sparklings is something of a fabulous oddity - a bone dry, pink, sparkling Italian wine from Emilia-Romagna in the north of Italy. This wine has practically flown off the shelf through summer, and customers just keep coming back for more.

Cantina Paltrinieri’s Radice is a modern, energetic, bone dry example of an elegant and ancient variety… dusty pale pink/orange, unfiltered, rustic, with notes of citrus, violet, dried cherry, raspberry, stone fruit, and grapefruit. Absolutely perfect as an aperitif. Secondary fermentation occurs in the bottle on natural yeasts and the wine is unfiltered, making it an easy recommendation for our pet-nat lovers as well. Previously tied with string when I first discovered this wine (such a novelty!), it is now under crown seal.

Our notes

Constantine's Notes:

There has been a lot of damage done to the wine style ‘Lambrusco’ from Emilia Romagna in Italy by the supermarket chains that sell the cheap sweet mass-produced examples. This is a shame because genuinely dry quality Lambrusco is what it’s all about!

Cantina Paltrinieri make this lightly pink sparkling dry version which is lip-smackingly delicious, dry and savoury, and bursting with fresh grapefruit acidity, some light yeasty nuances and notes of rose petal and tart cranberry. It’s not exactly pink with more of a light salmon/onion skin hue and we recommend it as an interesting replacement for a Sparkling or Pet Nat.

Also check out the reviews on this... 95 Points for a wine in this style is unheard of! So next time you want a refreshing vibrant sparkling style, give this dry Lambrusco beauty a chance. Impossible to have only one glass. Yum..

Sarah's Notes:

The Radice is absolutely stunning. Having family in Emilia-Romagna myself, I can speak to its authenticity. I have nurtured a love of this wine for years now… it is my go-to when for a fun gift, when I visit someone’s house, or for aperitivo in general. We’ve received such positive feedback from our customers, and it’s no wonder considering the accolades this wine has received.

Wine Enthusiast - #21 Top 100 of 2020 - 95 points

“Made by carrying out the second fermentation in the bottle, this radiant, lightly sparkling wine opens with heady aromas of citrus, violet and a yeasty whiff of bread dough. Bone-dry and delicious, the energised palate delivers tart sour cherry, juicy pomegranate, pink grapefruit and white pepper alongside crisp acidity and a savoury hint of saline. One bottle probably won't be enough."

Producers notes

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
