Palacios Remondo La Montesa - Rioja
Bottle size: 750ml
Full of Mediterranean orchard fruit aromas including nectarines, pomegranates, and oranges, the palate contains vibrant and rich flavors of ripe red fruit, discrete spice, citrus peel and exotic wood. Meant to enjoy now or age up to 10 years, this consumer-friendly wine is Alvaro's tribute to Garnacha's return to its historic homeland. Perfect when enjoyed by the glass on its own, La Montesa's multi-faceted flavor profile will also pair well with any kind of cuisine.

Palacios Remondo is the family estate of Alvaro Palacios (who also has outstanding estates in Priorato and Bierzo). Alvaro, along with Telmo Rodriguez & Peter Sisseck (Pingus), is one of the rock stars of modern Spanish winemaking. Like the others, he's no super-charged sugar-&-oak freak, however.
It's all about the vineyard - great old-vines, beautifully composed fruit reflecting the smells & flavours of the earth in the finished wine. Palacios Remondo is an estate given to Garnacha & Tempranillo in equal measure, plus a little white from Viura, and little bits of Mazuelo (aka Carinena or Carignan) and Graciano - the traditional blending agents, along with Garnacha, which Riojanos use with Tempranillo.
The Palacios estate is of 240 hectares, still quite high up at about 550m in the foothills of the Yerga mountain range. It's in the east, in the province of Alfaro. Soils are coarse clay/chalk, stony and poor. Rainfall low at 360mm. The project is to reflect soil minerality in the wine, avoid over-cooked fruit character and retain a sense of lively fresh elegance. A minimum of mechanical handling in the winery is a dramatic counterpoint to the oxidative tendencies of Rioja in the past - as is the care of husbandry in the vineyard.
Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)
In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.
The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").
Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.
For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.
Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
