Not your typical super-aromatic Gewurtz, Weird Berries is savoury and textured with a little phenolic grip from some skin contact. The aromatic signature of the variety isn’t entirely lost with some Turkish delight and citrus peel on the nose. Taras used to say “Whatever they teach you to do when making aromatic whites, I just go and do the opposite”!

Ochota Barrels is based in Lenswood, in the cool high altitude climate of Adelaide Hills. Taras and Amber Ochota conceived of Ochota Barrels as a way to produce small batch super premium single vineyard wines sourced from magnificent old vineyard sites in McLaren Vale, Barossa and Adelaide Hills. Both are accomplished winemakers who have travelled and worked in California, Italy and Sweden. In Australia Taras worked at Two Hands and Nepenthe. Their winemaking approach is minimalist. Hand harvested fruit is partially whole bunch basket pressed, fermented with native yeast, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. After Taras' untimely passing, his wife Amber is proudly at the helm, continuing to make the style of wines that have developed a cult following.
