Ochota Barrels Shes Lost Control Fragola - Adelaide Hills
Bottle size: 750ml

100% Fragolino (Fragola meaning Sttrawberry-grape), also known as Isabella, or Odessa.
Hand-picked mid February from a tiny vineyard in the Piccadilly Valley, planted from canes smuggled in from Calabria in the 80s to provide for a migrant family’s wine consumption needs. De-stemmed and wild fermented for 5 days before basket pressing to seasoned French barriques and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Unlike other varieties, the vineyard smells intensely of fruit - feijoas and strawberries. These aromatics continue on in the glass, with estery notes of tar, menthol, strudel and spices. The palate is compact, nervy and vibrantly red.
Paired it with spaghetti, Minced beef with peas and cucumber, with grated carrot and pepper (Pilipili) on the side.
Ochota Barrels is based in Lenswood, in the cool high altitude climate of Adelaide Hills. Taras and Amber Ochota conceived of Ochota Barrels as a way to produce small batch super premium single vineyard wines sourced from magnificent old vineyard sites in McLaren Vale, Barossa and Adelaide Hills. Both are accomplished winemakers who have travelled and worked in California, Italy and Sweden. In Australia Taras worked at Two Hands and Nepenthe. Their winemaking approach is minimalist. Hand harvested fruit is partially whole bunch basket pressed, fermented with native yeast, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
