Nicola Bergaglio Rovereto Gavi 2021 - Piedmont
Closure: Cork
Bottle size: 750ml
Since 1946 Gianluigi Bergaglio has grown Cortese on his 18 hectare estates near the town of Gavi. Nicola Bergaglio were one of the first known wineries in the now designated area to produce their own wines, not just sell their grapes off. Gianluigi was joined by his son Diego who is now the winemaker, and though both are quiet achievers, preferring to let the wines speak for themselves, it is evident that they are very proud of what they do.
Our notes
This is so good. Yes, we thought we would go for something slightly out of the box this week. A beautiful dry light-bodied refreshing Italian white Gavi [Cortese] from Piedmont in North-Western Italy. The producer is one of the finest in the region making a zesty mineral style that complements all manner of seafood like Oysters or fish and even looks a little bit like French Chablis in its flinty slightly chalky personality.
The importer PJ recounted to us how he came to import this wine after drinking it in Italy at a dinner amidst some of Italy’s greatest winemakers who all showed their appreciation for it.
A great Italian dry white to share with someone who thinks they’ve tasted everything from Italy! Delicious and totally unique…! Highly recommended!
