This brilliant Adelaide Hills winery recently cleaned up at The Adelaide Hills Wine Show with their 2018 Limited Release 'The Rocket' Chardonnay winning three trophies, including Best Chardonay, Best White Wine and Top Wine.

As Mike Bennie points out in his excellent 96 Point review, it’s crafted by Chardonnay guru Michael Downer in the leaner mineral-charged citrus-driven style yet still loaded with personality for flavour hounds, aided no doubt by partial malolactic fermentation - the best of both worlds! It’s a lovely piece of chardonnay architecture to ponder now, but deserves its place in your cellar alongside Australia’s top Chardonnays!

A selection of vineyards and barrels, whole berry (destemmed in common parlance), wild-fermented in tight-grain oak (50% new), 50% mlf, 19 months maturation. This is all about the length and persistence of a high quality wine, grapefruit, lemon and white flesh stone fruit all contributing. Halliday Wine Companion 2020, 1 August, 2019

A very complex and convincing young chardonnay that has superior weight of fruit, which also sets it apart. Aromas of white peaches, lemons and yellow grapefruit are married with subtly flinty reduction and hints of praline, as well as oak spice. The palate fills out with peach-sorbet, nectarine and lemon flavors and holds long, precise and even. Superb. Drink or hold. jamessuckling.com, 28 June, 2019

Strong struck match and flint scents, almost completely dominating fruit character, though a peep of white pear emerges behind. The palate is skeletal but lightly juicy, impressively taut, lengthy and racy, holds incredible sense of freshness and vitality, skims long into a green pear/lime juice finish. It’s of an ilk, but done very well, and should hold attention long for those seeking mineral-charged, leaner, racier styles. It’s an excellent expression. The Wine Front, 17 June, 2019

Producers notes

The Artisan Series by Murdoch Hill is an exclusive range of handmade wines. These wines are made in small batches from a diverse range of vineyard sites throughout the Adelaide Hills.

Michael crafts the wines from vineyard to bottle using a minimalistic approach, utilising indigenous yeast, whole bunch fermentation and extended skin contact to best express the fruit and unique characters of each distinguished vineyard.

Our family has been farming the fertile soils of the Onkaparinga Valley since 1939 and in this time there have been many cattle grazing, hens laying, potatoes grown, flowers picked and since 1998 we have been passionately caring for our vines, and making great wines.

Shipping

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
