A wine not to be missed. It comes from a cru in Castiglione Falletto in the heart of the Barolo region. The grapes which grow in the vineyard located to the south east yield a wine with a fine, prominent bouquet and an excellent texture: an elegant and exquisite partner for the demanding palate. Its highly balanced character makes it a Barolo which is ready immediately after the traditional ageing period of three years in an oak barrels.

Our notes

Beautiful aromatic herb and floral perfume here, red fruits, crushed rocks, plenty of spice, liquorice root and orange peel. Medium bodied, but dense and powerful, with packed down stony tannin, fresh acidity, layers of spice and amaro herbs, cherry and red fruits, and this soaring precise finish dusted with smashed rock tannin. Great wine. Transparent. Will age for decades.

The Wine Front
Lovely vineyard and very lovely people at this estate. Importer: Ethereal Wines Ripe cherry, spice, liquorice root, new leather, dried herb and roses. Medium weight, so much cherry, but savoury and laced with black tea and sage, layers of suede-like tannin, juicy well integrated tangerine acidity, clean lines and a svelte and very long finish. Needs air if opening now, but the potential is huge. Drink : 2021 - 2033+

Producers notes

In Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the Barolo region, the Monchiero family embarked on their wine journey in the 50s through the work of the brothers Remo and Maggiorino, who lived in La Morra at that time. First they only sold grapes, then they decided to make wine themselves. And so the journey continued, until in the 70s the wine was drawn into bottles and placed on the market: the "gold" of the Langa - Barolo for abroad (USA), the young wines for Italy.

In the 80s Vittorio Monchiero, son of Maggiorino, graduated from the college of viticulture in Alba and gradually became more involved in the concern which had been expanded by his father and uncle. After marrying his wife Daniela, in the 90s he took over the wine cellar and marketing, travelled and attended trade fairs throughout the world. Tradition and innovation left their mark; production grew, not least thanks to the acquisition of choice land.

In 2017 his eldest son Luca joined the family winery, while Stefano, his second-born, has attended the high school for agricultural sciences, in order to continue the family tradition: that of Barolo.

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.
