“Not only is Michael a great guy, he is also a seriously good winemaker.” - Marc Lunt, Terrason Wines

We tasted this beautiful affordable Pinot Noir with winemaker Michael Hall last week and what a wine!

He is a tiny artisan producer who doesn’t crow from the rooftops, yet quietly goes about his business of crafting some pretty amazing small batch wines. After a stint in Switzerland as a jewellery valuer at Sothebys Michael moved to Australia graduating dux of the Charles Sturt University winemaking course. Since then he has worked for some pretty iconic local and international wineries including Cullen, Henschke and Veritas in Australia, plus legendary French producers like Domaine Leflaive, Meo-Camuzet, Vieux Telegraphe and Trevallon!

Our notes

The fruit for this beauty comes from the cool high altitude vineyards of Bastard Hill in Piccadilly and Mawson Road in Lenswood. It’s hand picked, destemmed to open fermenters with 43% whole bunch, then matured for 11 months in French oak [11% new]. The whole bunch component adds lovely layers of complexity, fragrance and intrigue on the nose which really draws you in. So wonderful to sniff! The medium weight energetic palate shows red cherry, tart cranberry and wild strawberry flavours amidst some light savoury forest floor and gentle whole bunch twiggy stem notes. The acidity bristles along the palate defining and lifting the deliciously detailed pinot fruit.

All in all an awesome hand crafted small batch Pinot Noir made by a master craftsman. This is gorgeous and absurdly rewarding for a pinot at this price! Well done Michael…

Producers notes

Sang de Pigeon (pigeon’s blood) is a nod to my former life as a jewellery valuer. It’s the trade term for the colour of the finest rubies, invariably from the Mogok Stone Tract in Myanmar. The precious grapes for this wine come from distant lands far to the south-east: The elevated vineyards of South Australia’s Adelaide Hills. - Michael Hall

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
