Massolino Barolo Margheria 2016 - Piedmont
Bottle size: 750ml
Maximum buy quantity no greater than 6 bottles.
Appearance: deep garnet red.
Bouquet: ethereal, featuring spicy, tobacco and brushwood notes; there are also important mineral notes.
Flavour: classic and nicely harmonious wine, tannic when young and with considerable ageing potential, making it an unmistakable “Nebbiolo of Serralunga”.
Well, I can’t visit Massolino this year, which is a shame, but here we are at Margheria, a more chalky and sandy site that lends a pretty and more perfumed side to Serralunga. Importer: Bibendum
Such perfume. Think rose petals and cassia bark, red fruits and sweet herbs. It’s clear and precise, bright red fruits, spice and floral perfume, freshness and subtle amaro bitterness, fine firm chalky tannin, and a finish of quiet succulence and superb length. Beautiful wine. All class.
The Massolino 2016 Barolo Margheria offers a plump and ripe fruit profile with aromas of dark cherry, blackberry and plum. Beyond that powerful primary bouquet are layers of spice, tobacco and crushed stone. Serralunga d'Alba often delivers ferrous mineral aromas that resemble iron ore and rusty nail, and those appear here too in a supporting role. The Margheria site shapes structured wines that are slightly more accessible, if you consider neighboring sites in Serralunga d'Alba, but it is also built for the long term should you decide to wait. The 2016 Barolo Margheria is super-refined and elegant, but it is also classically austere, as so many top wines are in this vintage. Bright red berry fruit, wild flowers, mint, blood orange, rose petal and cinnamon all grace this very pretty, nuanced Barolo. The Margheria is medium in body, and despite its austerity, it is also very pretty, not to mention incredibly inviting. It will be even better in another few years, once the tannins soften. Readers will have to be patient. (2/2020)
Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").
