Wonderful lower alcohol Rose that is very highly recommended by us!
After years spent in Europe working for some of the greats of the wine world, Mac Forbes returned to Australia in 2004 to set up his own eponymous brand. He chose the Yarra Valley where he grew up in as a child and quickly established himself as one of the leading lights of the region. Mac’s obsession is with wines that express ‘terroir’ and clear subregional identities. Although pinot noir is Mac’s specialisation, he also releases what he refers to as his EB or experimental batch range, which is no doubt intended as a playground for his winemaking skills.
100% Syrah from Healesville, Yarra Valley. At only 10% Alc it is picked early for freshness, crushed and destemmed with a quick press for colour, then settled in tank for 48hrs, racked off to a combination of old oak and concrete for fermentation, followed by maturation in 2000 and 2500 litre cement tanks for 4 months.
The result is a flat out delicious dry Rose showing pretty floral lift and gorgeous mouthwatering red cherry/strawberry fruit spiked with bristling acidity and refreshing mineral drive. Wonderful Rose that is very highly recommended by us!
It’s a funny time to be making wine in Australia. For many, technological advancements no longer define our wines, which bring us back to the age old question – what makes our patch of dirt unique? And this is our journey. We are committed to seeking out sites that we deem to be strong and unusual. Often these vineyards were unloved when discovered, however through listening to and learning from the sites themselves, we have been able to bring back the health of the vineyards and share their character through the wines we are now making. We are surprised that we have found sites with such clarity and beauty. And as a result, this very small and slow project is teaching us a lot about our land and our place within it.
Mac first donned overalls in the South West of France at the tender age of eighteen. That summer was the catalyst for a now 20 year long career which has seen Mac work with some of the most respected names in the business, both in Australia and overseas. Mac’s early experiences covered the gamut of winemaking, teaching and marketing. From educating European distributors on Australian wines to consulting to Austrian winemakers, Mac developed a strong understanding of the international wine market and old fashioned winemaking. Returning to Australia in 2004, Mac kicked off his own project determined to further his own understanding of Australian soils and climate. Now firmly entrenched in the Yarra with 6 vineyard sites and a range of old and younger vineyards, Mac sees the future as an exciting period where much of the Yarra nuances will be revealed with greater clarity.
Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)
In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.
The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").
Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.
For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.
Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
