New leather, pressed rose, underbrush, dark spice and camphor are just some of the aromas you'll find on this extraordinary red. Full-bodied, with depth and finesse, the elegant, structured palate delivers ripe Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, licorice and tobacco framed in firm fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity provides impeccable balance and aging potential. *Cellar Selection* (9/2020)
Rocche Rivera is a 2.5-hectare parcel inside the Scarrone cru located in Castiglione Falletto with sandy calcareous soils. The celebrated Rocche di Castiglione is located adjacent, and the Pira cru is directly above. Rocche Rivera enjoys an ideal position in one of the best-performing areas of the appellation in this classic vintage. The Figli Luigi Oddero 2016 Barolo Rocche Rivera is stunning, with a level of harmony and purity that makes an immediate and lasting impact. The wine shows pristine fruit aromas backed by wild rose, tar, ash and blood orange. Those aromas hang in perfect balance. The wine is firmly compact and solid in terms of mouthfeel, requiring a few extra years of cellar time to fully unwind. This beautiful 6,000-bottle release will hit the market in October 2020. Producers notesThe Oddero family has a remarkably long association with winemaking in the Langhe – traceable back to 1878 at least. In more recent history, the name began to find its way onto the labels of the region’s great wine styles in the early 1950s, when brothers Luigi and Giacomo began bottling the family’s wine under its own identity. Luigi was the driving force in terms of viticulture and winemaking, and under his influence the ‘brand’ became established and flourished for 50 years, and continues to be produced independently under the name Oddero.
