Lenton Brae Lady Douglas Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 - Margaret River
Closure: Screw cap
Bottle size: 750ml
Medium bodied, smooth and supple, with juicy mixed berries and cherry. Matured in french oak the fine tannins add length to the palate. Will reward with medium term cellaring.
The first members of the Tomlinson family arrived in Western Australia aboard the Lady Douglas on the 9th of July 1884. This wine recognises their voyage to a new life and celebrates my family's endeavours since. Edward Tomlinson Winemaker.
Fermentation: 30% New French Oak 70% Aged Oak
It’s medium to full bodied and oozes wonderful layers of varietal character with rich cassis and chocolate notes infused with classic Margaret River bay leaf nuances. The cedar oak adds a kiss of extra complexity to the lovely fruit and the tannins provide shape and structure which should ensure at least another 5 - 10 years aging further in a cool cellar.
At the price it is an unbelievably good Cabernet Sauvignon, so bravo to Ed and his team. Outstanding…! CR
Bruce and Jeanette Tomlinson established Lenton Brae Estate in 1982. It remains family owned and operated with son Edward the current winemaker.
The site of the vineyard was chosen after a chance conversation with Bill Pannell. Bill was the owner of Moss Wood winery and producing wines that were renowned throughout Australia and overseas. Bill had engaged Bruce to assist with the shire of Busselton’s planning requirements for sub dividing the Moss Wood property.
During a casual chat between the two men, Bill opined that the soils of one of the newly created properties were uniformly excellent and equal to those of the existing Moss Wood vineyard. Suitably impressed, Bruce decided to purchase the property immediately to the north of Moss Wood realising a long held desire to move from Perth to Margaret River. The need to establish a vineyard and winery just happened to be incidental.
The varieties selected for planting in 1982 were Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Pinot Noir was also originally planted but was removed in line with Bruce’s decision to focus Lenton Brae production on the red and white Bordeaux wine styles.
