Partly inspired by winemakers of the Mosxl Valley and Alsxce, but mostly just to provoke, Das Sakrileg Riesling is produced in small volumes for those with inquisitive palates and a healthy appreciation of diversity. In contrast to the classic, purist Australian Riesling style, juice is oxidatively handled, fermented wild in barrel, matured on unsulphured lees and may undergo partial malolactic fermentation.

Sourced from Frankland ironstone, and Denmark and Mount Barker sites on sandy loam over clay and granite. The 2017 release shows great phenolic presence and depth of savoury characters, with scents reminiscent of quince, sherbet, beeswax and complex characters derived from wild ferment and extended lees contact. On the finely textured palate, citrus-like acidity is tempered by the richness of fermentation in seasoned oak and time on lees. A splash of Gewürztraminer tosses up a rose petal bouquet. The wine fermented at ambient temperature in a cool cellar and remained on lees in old puncheons and hogsheads for 9 months, before racking and bottling without fining or filtration. 330 cases made.

THE LA VIOLETTA STORY
La Violetta began producing small quantities of wine at Denmark, on Western Australia’s south coast, in 2008. Grapes are sourced from a handful of trusted growers with exceptional vineyards, some amongst the oldest in the state. The idea is to keep production at a small scale so that each wine is personally hand-crafted.

In 2010, La Violetta’s first release, 2008 La Ciornia, featured in Matthew Jukes’ Top 100 and Sarah Ahmed’s Top Five Australian wines. The wines are not entered into shows due to the limited volumes produced.

Before being lured west by the quality of Great Southern grapes, winemaker Andrew Hoadley worked all over Australia’s cool and hot zones and in Piedmont, Abruzzo and Washington State. He now lives on Mt Shadforth, just out of Denmark town, and makes the wines in a small facility in the countryside.

The name ‘La Violetta’ derives from an old Piedmontese song celebrating intoxication.

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
