We’ve always thought of the La Petite Vanguard as being our example of a Bistro style wine – the experimental sibling to Vanguardist. Youthful & vibrant, with great drinkability, enhanced by layers of complexity from thoughtful use of solids, skin contact, oak and other vessels.

WINEMAKING

Following the brutal 2019 vintage was always going to be tough. It had been dry & hot for two consecutive vintages and the season leading up to 2020 was not too much different. Luckily, we had a few spots of rain at critical points, and we limped over the line with slightly more crop than in 2019. We saw an excellent quality of Grenache across several hand picks, with a lowly yield of around 19HL/Ha, close to 50% below the long-term average.

The final wine sees around 50% whole bunch, some carbonic, some more traditional. Aged 500L puncheons and 600L demi-muid housed the wine for about 6 months post press, before the final wine was blended and sent to bottle without fining or filtration.

Our notes

Youthful & alive, very pretty on the nose, medium weight, with beautiful spicy Grenache fruit, pleasing savouriness, great drinkability, enhanced by layers of complexity from thoughtful intelligent winemaking.

For all those sensitive to sulphur in wines, this only has 35ppm, which is very low! Most importantly though it is a delicious very small batch modern Grenache that oozes charm… CR

Blewitt Springs. 50% whole bunch, some carbonic. Rende vineyard. 220 dozen produced.

It’s fun. It pops. But it’s also quite serious too. Delivers flavour with a light touch, water-coloured and pure, laden with dried rose perfume and spice, strawberry and raspberry, a subtle ‘mineral’ character and fine pumice stone tannin, slight earthiness, and a fine cool finish. Such a lovely drink, now, or a fair bit later.

Producers notes

Vanguardist Wines is, in it's heart, a collaborative project between three friends, each from varying walks of life,  that came to the realisation (after many a late evening in the sleepy town of Hawkes Bay, New Zealand) that they held the same ideals about wine. We all have jobs and take time outside of our everyday lives so that we have our own creative licence to produce wines that we love to drink.

‘An experimental spirit at heart’

Driven by a passion for creating wines with intrigue, 'V' is about pushing the boundaries of ‘status quo’ wine making and viticulture. Wines that are delicious, textural and enticing.

In an industry that is awash with overly commercialised wines produced by corporates who take up all the elbow room, shout noisily across the table and flood the market with mass produced wine that are often guised as ‘boutique wines’, we wish to make a humble stand and be vanguardist in our methods.

'V' is a nod to the small guys looking to keep it real, forever striving to unlock the imagination and inspire those with curious palates.

Shipping

Delivery is currently free of charge for both straight and mixed cases Australia Wide. (*excludes remote postcodes in WA and NT) (*excludes fundraising orders)

In most instances, a case is 12 bottles, including all mixed cases. Please note that the case quantity can vary between 3-12 bottles, depending on individual wine value and packaging configuration.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").

Where all or part of the order is less than a case (as defined in the product pricing options, or 12 bottles if mixed) shipping will be charged as per your postcode at our cost price, this charge amount will be visible before your order confirmation and payment.

For example, a mixed bottle order of 18 bottles will include a freight charge for the second mixed case of only 6 bottles. A mixed 24 bottle order would be totally freight free.

Our intention is to offer free shipping to as many wine lovers as possible, however, given the geographically vast size of Australia, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping to 100% of postcodes.
