A stunning brooding Barbaresco which has the power and feel of a Barolo. Attractive dark cherry and rich plum fruits abound alongside withered rose, a hint of menthol, old leather, clove spice and savoury wild herbs. Tannins are firm and very Nebbiolo. It’s a drop-dead gorgeous serious Barbaresco…! Great producer and great wine. CR

Enticing, earthy aromas of iris, camphor and dark-skinned berry mingle with truffle, leather and wild herb on this full-bodied red. Hailing from one of the best sites in Barbaresco, it’s firmly structured and incredibly delicious, delivering raspberry compote, ripe Marasca cherry, tobacco and licorice alongside youthfully assertive, noble tannins. With its Barolo-like structure, this is one for cellaring. Drink 2025-2037. Cellar Selection. K.O. (8/2020)
The Count of Montestefano says, ‘Go Forth’.
Cherry, almond and liquorice, spice and dried herb. Quiet succulence, ripe red fruits, stony and earthy feel, vineyard rolls and rumbles like thunder in the distance, black tea and mint, and a very long cool finish. Wonderful expression and personality. So very good.
The 2017 Barbaresco Montestefano is a dark, brooding beauty. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, mocha, cloves, leather and licorice add to a real sense of gravitas that runs through the 2017. Readers need to be patient with the Montestefano. I suspect it will always remain something of a brute, but it is endowed with tremendous presence and a ton of personality. (AG) 94+ (10/2020)
“La Ca' Növa remains one of the true undiscovered jewels of Barbaresco. Marco Rocca crafts intense, classically proportioned Barbarescos full of personality.” Antonio Galloni.
Marco’s vineyards are located in the commune of Barbaresco and include the prestigious crus of Monetefico and Montestefano, two of the best sites that are often referred to as being ‘baroloesque’ owing to their backbone and ageing capability. Located on the Eastern side of the commune and separated by a few hundred metres, Montestefano is a few hundred metres south of Montefico and was the first to be bottled as a singlevineyard wine, by the legendary Beppe Colla (of Poderi Colla) in 1961.
Montestefano typically combines elegance and richness with a firm structure whilst Montefico is more austere with bracing tannins. The viticulture is sustainable and the wines are all made the same way, with 20-25 days of skin contact and aging for 20 months in large neutral botti. Best of all, they remain great value for money.

The number of bottles that define a straight case is marked in the product pricing page (i.e. "as part of any 6", "single bottle" and "3 or 6 or 12 bottle case").
